Bulb Hanging Mobile
Quoted from Flickr.com (click-the-pic to see more):
Bulb is a dynamic mobile that merges the organic with the industrial. It hangs suspended by it's 4 leaves while the inner leaves collapse inwards when the handle is pulled. This was a project for the Georgia Tech Industrial Design program. Designed by Federico Holgado, Benny Lee, and Tyler Wilson.

Multistorey Cube
Made of MDF with an outer veneer. The sides were etched and infilled with color. It would make a pretty cool paperweight, but I really don't know anybody who uses one.

More Books...
How many books have I featured here? Too many? Imposable! Anyway, these are from Engrave Your Book which I talked about in a previous post.
Fly And SCIENCE On A Moleskine notebook
Yes, another book with a laser etched cover, but it is really cool. Great scale between the fly and Science - huh?

COAST to COAST
Just cool. The division of the pages with the placement of the lettering/words is so striking - a total Otis piece but it's not. See more at jen beckman.

Wood Assemblages
These are really cool. They are simple shapes that are simply arranged to make a complex assembly. From Techshopdurham.com.

Much like the keys I blogged about earlier - these are like something from a fairytale.

Jason Thielke
Jason Thaielke has been an artist on my radar for a few months now and I was shocked to find out he uses a laser cutter in his work. Isn't it amazing? Above is called Breaths and is laser etched Lacquer (not sure what that means) and measures 17" X 23".

Lamp Pt. 1
So I got back my laser cut pieces for my Laurel Lamp shades. Here is the assembly of one. I plan on assembling the other - and stringing them both - and making an instructable out of it. So next time I post about this they will be finished with an instructable to go along with them.

neighborgapbridge
The neighborgapbridge is an Integrated Learning (IL) class at Otis College of Art and Design. I am mentioning it for two reasons:
1. The instructor in the class is Patricia Kovic, and is the woman who introduced the laser cutter to me, and...
2. There was a laser cut project in the class which I helped set up.
The ngb, like all IL classes, has partners, and its partners are the neighbors of Otis. This includes The Westchester Senior Center, The Westchester Public Library, KJ's Restaurant, and The Custom Hotel (I'm sure I left someone out, sorry). The class promotes community involvement - whether that community is the class, Otis, the neighborhood and further beyond out into the city.
The above is what what termed a ghetto necklace and was branded with ngb. The forms used (shown in the amazing flash on the main page) were based on combining the forms of two very dissimilar objects and tracing their silhouette. They were cut from clear Plexiglas that was then spray painted a shocking pink.
I hope to be in that IL next semester (Spring).
Back At Otis
Yes, I started back at school Monday and I've already dropped off and picked up my laser cutting projects. Pictured above are the parts for my lamp and the new seat for the ANNEX Chair. Not pictured is the cover for my portfolio (I left that at school because I need to drop it off to be printed and bound), but the laser etched Aspen wood veneer looks so amazing!

Canopy
This canopy is made with laser cut birch plywood and printed sailcloth. I think the forms were meant to look florid, but they come across more as undersea creatures - which is not a bad thing. Click-thepic to see more.
