NLC Design #3 Monster Brains

It's not really design - on the part of Monster Brains - but you should know about it.

Monster Brains is a blog about monsters. Some are highbrow monsters (like Dougal Dixon's work) and some are lowbrow works (like there seemingly endless listing of VHS box covers).

This brought up some lurid memories of visits to the video store as a kid (movies weren't delivered to you door or screen way back then). And it jogged my memory about a Saturday afternoon movies I saw as a kid, The Nest. The VHS cover literally looks like a giant cockroach is raping a woman.

So check out Monster Brains (the admin there works harder than I do).

Isolation

This is a work from Alice Parlett.

Quoted from Flickr.com
This is a project that I am currently working on, themed isolation. I was particularly inspired by an image of a man walking alone in a wood. I started to develop this idea and started to work 3D. After making this, i decided to make my work cyclindrical to increase the sense of isolation. With the use of light and shadows I was able to enhance this feeling of isolation amongst the trees. I have also become interested in how the trees overlay each other, and the contrast in not only light but a sense of distance. I am currently working on a piece to laser cut on acrylic these tree shapes to experiment with light and dark.
