Primitives

These very lovely inlaid works are by antebellumdisco on flickr. They appear to made of acrylic and seem to be part of a series.

More from StudioQ

We talked about them before, in fact they sat down for an interview. The Scarf above, available from their Etsy.com store, is called Verdi and shows a selected measure by the composer.

Spantastic!

Spantastic is a spanning competition that takes place in Technology & Ecology III at Otis College of Art and Design.

Well, it didn't go so well. This is Barbara and my laser cut bridge. We came in 3rd out of 4... So sad:(

Shown in the top pic is our super-cut instructor Greg Kochanowski.

The Second pic shows (left to right) April Osterhues, Leah Daschbach, and Zhivar Afshar.

Hot Chip: Made in the Dark

I talked about this before but the photo was removed. A collaboration between Wallzo and Blanka. And see more at Flickr.com.

The ANNEX Chair

I while back I created this "chair" called the ANNEX for the AIA Chair Affair competition - I didn't win. It was featured on ReadyMade where you can read more about it. I reticently made a new laser cut Masonite seat to replace the cardboard one which wasn't strong enough (but conformed to the Chair Affair rules) and it is going to be featured at the OBJCT GALLERY in January - I'll keep you posted.

Not totally sure how it works, but I like it. It seems to be a topographical place mat holding a plate, spoon, knife, and fork. See more by clicking-the-pic or go to karakola.com.

Yes, yes... Ouija board

crafty!, originally uploaded by nausk!.

So cool, and I am going to make one, but won't the planchette bounce because it's etched? Read more at MAKE and see more pics at disaza's drop box.

Marshmallow Bridge

So, In my Tec +Ec III class we are on the final project "Span-Tastic!" where we have to build a bridge - the first part was to build a bridge out of toothpicks and tiny, multi-colored marshmallows and then span between our desk. None of the class accomplished the task (come on! it was 36" and made of marshmallows and fucking toothpicks), but my partner and I came closest. I'll post a pic of that. Anyway the final will be laser cut (duh!). We wanted to use neon Plexiglas but it is way to expansive so we will most likely be using chipboard (yuk!). But the entire time I was building the marshmallow bridge I was singing Blondie's "Diamond Bridge" in my head...

Jennaca Leigh Davies

Jannaca sent me a link to her site - a divers mix of jewelery and art (if there is a difference between the two). Above is some of her laser cut paper jewelery - I think what sets her apart from others is her thoughtful use of color - it really is stunning. Enjoy!

Portugal. the Man - It's Complicated Being A Wizard

Quoted from from flickr:

The record was pressed on 333 copies of blue and 667 on black. Both featuring the gorgeous laser etching of the artwork on the b-side. I also enjoy that the b-side is labeled as playing at 6 6/6 RPM.

200th Post...

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Strobist, originally uploaded by tdub303.

Technically it's the one right bellow, but what ever. And I think we can all admit that tigers, like The Beatles, are pretty overrated... I'm just kidding (I don't need your hate mail).

Shool Is (...)

Fill in the blank. I'm not sure what to say - nothing positive. I'm underwhelmed by my studio class and I'm looking forward to next semester knowing full well that it will be more of the same - and less time to focus on TLC - but I will do my best - so for the infrequency of my posts.

PS. I'm in the pic...

Very space age... Did they play ping-pong in "Logan's Run"?

Quoted from Flickr (click-the-pic to see/read more):

Made with laser cutter, made without glue, held together with pegs, etched lines, made of 2 layers for the paddle and 2 more for the handle.
