Etsy Silent Protest

Sorry I haven't been posting - it's finals, so I will be taking a week off...

But this is important. You may have noticed my new etsy.com rule here, and the full reason for the etsy.com rule. Now this is what you can do to help etsy out and stop them being being hypocrites...

Esty.com Silent Protest.

Did you see? They list the shops! So we can all patronize (that means buy stuff from ) those considerate shops.

I'd take part, but as you may have read, my account is suspend for unknown reasons - though I may just open another one (not like they'd care).

The Etsy Rule

This has been brewing for a while, and now it time to drink it (I can't think of a better metaphor - sorry).

So, I've been dissatisfied with Etsy.com for a while - it doesn't have to do with them suspending my account with 100% positive feedback for unknown reasons, but still allowing me to make purchases (curious - isn't it), or how grouping things by color is neither art, design, or a display of any talent, it is the resellers. The resellers that do not hand-make their wares themselves - did you ever look at wedding dresses on Etsy? I find it hard to believe that people working out of their garages all use Chinese models to display their dresses.

This is what killed it for me - if you are wondering.

Because I have limited time to devote to this blog, what time I do spend I feel needs to benefit real artisans and designers employing laser cutters in the creation of their work, and because I do not have the time to search the internet to see if someone has made their work themselves - I will no longer be displaying work solely from Etsy.com stores.

Rules 1: you must have another web source of your work (can be flickr show).
Rule 2: if a person has already been featured on TLC (or the Ponoko roundup) for their Etsy.com store, the post will remain (this goes back to that time thing).

That being said - if you have laser cut work to share please let me know at the. laser. cutter. @gmail.com (remove the spaces;)

Vinyl Lattice

Designed with Grasshopper and laser cut into a vinyl record by Austin Chod.

Digital Die Cutting

So, Ponoko right now has a contest to win a Silhouette Cameo, and this got me thinking about buying my own digital die cutting machine - they are die cutters that use blades (like lasers) instead of dies and "print" your designs from your computer.

This is Top 10 Reviews and what I am basing my purchase on (I can't afford a laser cutter - can you?), and I think I am going for the Boss Kut Gazelle...

Good luck on the contest!

Boxdesigner

I'm not altogether sure what to say about this site - but it allows you to design boxes (and other things) to laser cut through your browser.

Thanks to Gerd Brath.

Hefner/Beuys House

Jimenez Lai is my former studio professor (maybe I should just say friend) and he's kickstarting this project - with backing in the amount of $150 or more you can receive an original artwork from Jimmy (which is a very good deal).
